Suzhou boasts 4,027 medical institutions, among which 243 are hospital, 86 are health centers. There are 77,600 beds in all medical institutions, among which 66,600 are in hospital and 8,000 are in health centers. In total, there are 101,000 medical personnel including 39,400 practicing physicians and practicing physician assistants and 44,800 registered nurses.
The phase II of Suzhou Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine was completed and put into use. 10 primary medical and health institutions were newly renovated, expanded and built meanwhile 3 internet hospitals were newly added. The construction work of projects as the Suzhou Emergency Center, Suzhou Children's Health Development Center, the phase II of Xuguan campus of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University and the Municipal Public Health Advanced Research Institute has been accelerated, which has successfully been included in the list of national medical centers for traditional Chinese medicine.
