In 2021, 85 high schools, primary school and kindergartens were newly established and put into use. There are 858 schools of different varieties and of different levels (excluding kindergartens), among which 26 are universities and colleges. There are altogether 1.7584 million students in school, among whom 275,100 are in regular institutions of higher education.A total of 363,600 students graduate from schools, among whom 70,600 graduate from regular institutions of higher education. The number of full-time teachers is 113,400.
At the end of 2021, there are 966 kindergartens in total in Suzhou, the coverage rate of inclusive kindergartens reaches 89%.
Schools at the compulsory education stage have been basically run by educational group. The enrollment ratio of ordinary senior high schools reaches 65%.
The University of China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences and the Research Institute of Hohai University has been signed to be located in Suzhou. The construction of Nanjing University Suzhou Campus is accelerating, Suzhou City University is officially established; and the Phase I of Soochow University future campus is put into use.
Aiming to promote the high-quality development of vocational education, Suzhou has promulgated and implemented its plan for the reform and innovation of vocational education in the Suzhou-Wuxi-Changzhou metropolitan areas.
