On the evening of Jan. 18, a large set of rabbit lanterns was illuminated at Ancient Xumen Square, marking the beginning of the Spring Festival celebrations in Canglang Sub-district.
This set of lanterns, which is 12 meters long, 3 meter wide, and 5 meters high, is composed of 6 cute rabbit lanterns. Also, in the center of the square, there is a 16-meter-long and 5-meter-wide “Starlight Corridor” decorated by lanterns of different colors and shapes.
As a renowned traditional lantern festival in Suzhou, the Ancinet Xumen Lantern Festival has been held for 21 consecutive years. This set of lanterns was made by a team of craftsmen led by Wang Xiaowen, a national-level intangible cultural heritage inheritor of Suzhou-style lantern craft. The lantern show will last until Feb. 5.
